(Energizer, Feb. 18, 2022) - Swiss ABB has renamed its turbocharging business unit into "Accelleron" and said it expects to make a final decision on whether to sell or spin off the business by the end of the first quarter. In another statement, the group said, "Whichever way ABB chooses to divest the business, the process should be completed in the first half of 2022." ABB's turbo business, whose main competitors include Man in Germany,  Napier in the UK, KBB in Germany and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in Japan, is also part of ABB chief executive Bjorn Rosengren's plans to focus on a portfolio of electrification and automation businesses. The turbocharger business, which employs more than 2,300 people and will generate sales of around US$750 million in 2021, is most likely to be divested under the SIX Swiss Exchange in the second quarter of this year, Rosengren said.

ABB today announced that the Turbocharging business unit of its Process Automation division, a global leader in large turbocharging technology for diesel and gas engines, has officially launched its new brand "Accelleron". The brand name, a combination of the words Access - Accelerate - Excel - on and on, boldly adopts a new bright purple colour to present a powerful, inspirational brand image of excellence.

ABB renames its turbocharging division into Accelleron

The launch of the "Accelleron" brand is an important historical moment," said Oliver Riemenschneider, Global CEO of the Turbocharger business unit. We are not only proud of our long tradition, but also excited to start a new chapter in providing our customers with cutting-edge technology and service solutions. The new brand (Accelleron) is centred on the company's mission: to work together to drive forward, innovate and exceed expectations, to set industry standards and to benefit the whole industry. The new brand carries on the company's centuries-old tradition of excellence in turbocharging and demonstrates the ambition of the industry's global market leader to keep pace with the times, to contribute to sustainable development worldwide, and to stay on course. In 1924, Swiss engineer Alfred Büchi invented the world's first commercial turbocharger for large marine engines, manufactured by the Brownberg Farrer company (now ABB Group).

Accelleron is a global leader in turbocharger technology and optimized solutions for high-power internal combustion engines (over 500 kW), providing reliable and sustainable power for shipping, power generation, industry, locomotives and mining vehicles. With a global fleet of more than 200,000 turbochargers and more than 100 service stations around the world, Accelleron will achieve revenues of approximately US$ 750 million in 2021 and employs more than 2,300 people worldwide; approximately 800 of them are based at its global headquarters and R&D centre in Baden, Switzerland. With a global service network in more than 50 countries and an estimated 6,000 customers, the company is an industry leader and a preferred partner for its customers.

Against the backdrop of domestic and international regulations, Accelleron is also involved in the general trend towards decarbonisation and is one of the key market drivers. For example, the International Maritime Organisation has set a target to halve greenhouse gas emissions from ships by 2050, driving the demand for efficient and sustainable technologies. The company's future business strategy is based on retrofit and new carbon neutral fuel technologies, and Accelleron remains an industry leader in alternative fuel technologies (such as hydrogen, methanol and ammonia) and commercial prototyping projects.

With best wishes to new milestone of "Accelleron" !
